Statistical Study of Surgiccal Treatment for duodenal Ulcer

Abstract
Eighty cases of the duodenal ulcer were operated in the period from January 1962 through February 1965. The method of operation was the bilateral vagotomy with partial gastrectomy (40 to 50%). All the patients were male in young aged group. This was the one of the characteristics of the military hospital.
The incidence of serious operative and postoperative _ complications was minimal. Only two cases of the failure of the vagotomy and one case of the leakage from the gastrojejunostomy site were noted. The comparison of the superiority between Billroth I and Billroth II could not be done because of the small number of Billroth 1. It remained as a problem of further study.
The postoperative follow up observation continued for six to twelve months. The operative results were excellent in 81.2 %, good in 13.8 % and fair in 5 %.
